What makes a journey successful? Is it getting to the destination, returning to the origin, or accomplishing the journey’s task?
Here is the story of two men.
The Journey of Two Men
A father sent his two sons (Bai and Dav) to America from Mongolia to give his friend a gift.
The two sons got to America and delivered the gift to their father’s friend. However, on their journey back home, the older son (Bai) was adamant about buying a glamorous wristwatch but did not have sufficient funds.
Nonetheless, due to his intense desire for a beautiful American wristwatch, he decided to steal it. Unfortunately, he was caught in the act of robbery and imprisoned.
Meanwhile, the younger brother (Dav) focused on seeing his father again—to tell him how they successfully delivered the gift. Therefore, while Bai was in prison, Dav returned home without any blemish.
An Accomplished Journey
When Dav got home, his father—although not pleased with Bai’s situation—couldn’t contain the outflow of joy when he received his younger son. There were scenes of rejoicing, singing, dancing, and jubilation. Also, Dav got lots of gifts.
The joyful occasion occurred not just because Dav delivered his father’s gift. Instead, the main reason for the joyous celebration was that Dav successfully fulfilled his father’s errand while also returning home blameless.
In other words, Dav’s primary objective was to return to his father spotless—this was the foremost cause of joy.
How Is Your Journey?
Many of us have forgotten that God sent us on earth to deliver His gift to His friends, who He desires to become His children.
Although some successfully convey God’s gift to their intended recipients. However, they soon forget that successfully reaching the destination is only part of the journey. Instead, virtuously returning to one’s origin is the core determinant of an accomplished mission.
Many are held captive in the prison of sin. Although they got to their destinations successfully, (perhaps) due to the excessive joy at getting to their destination, they lost focus, leading to their imprisonment in the prison of sin.
What Delights God about Your Journey?
Indeed, God is not happy with the condition of those held captive in the prison of sin. But that will not suppress His everlasting joy and merriment towards His children’s delightful return—who had accomplished their errands and returned to their origin stainless.
The Journey’s Reward
People held under the captivity of sin are the people who are journeying toward hellfire (Rev. 21:8).
However, those who successfully return to their origin have eternal life in Christ Jesus because they neglected earthly treasures and focused on returning to their Father (God), who sent them on an errand (Rev. 21:7).
Oh, how joyous the heavenly host shall be when Christ’s children return to their origin.
Prayer Point
Lord Jesus, please lead me to deliver your gift(s) appropriately. Also, grant me a triumphant return to my origin. Amen.
